I'm in Montgomery, Alabama right now doing the 11 km walk. Stopped in at the library to check email, etc.
Next up is the State Capital...I plan to tour it as I do all of them. The downtown here is DEAD - apparently they used to have a beautiful downtown but now it is a ghost town in the evening. Last night I went to a barbeque place for ribs and chicken. I will have lunch about 2 p.m. which will be dinner as well....Note: went to the State Capital and there was a demonstration on so couldn't tour the building. I had lunch - a meat and two veg - typical southern fare. Pot roast unlike any I've ever seen....turnip greens, fried green tomatoes and corn bread. It tasted better than it looked.
Went to the Rosa Parks musuem yesterday which was wonderful...she is the woman who refused to give up her seat to a white man and sparked the beginning of the civil rights era.
Had my last southern breakfast this morning...grits, scrambled eggs, biscuits. I am developing a taste for grits!!!
People are so friendly here....really do have a soft spot for Alabama.
My room was beautiful - they upgraded me to a suite no less. King bed, two TV's, little kitchenette - I wanted to move in! All for $64!!!
Found out our room in New Orleans is haunted - guess a light switched off by itself during the night which freak Pat out. Me I was too busy snoring my head off. Anyway more on that later....I will type more about this trip when I get home and can settle down on the computer with a cup of coffee and relax.
Off on the hound to Oklahoma City this afternoon at 5 p.m. Then back to Canada on Saturday night. Hope to get on the 'net Thursday in OKC but you never know....
Bye y'all!!!
